The Joplin Eagles
Joplin finished their 2008 season with a 9-7 loss to Neosho in the first round of district play in Springfield on Monday. The Eagles left six runners on base in the final three innings as they were unable to get the big hit when needed.
That will do it for this seasons Joplin sports broadcasts on 1230 The Fan. Special thanks to Kevin Welch for all of his passion and fine work as always. The Next Eagles broadcast on 1230 The Fan comes your way on August 29th as football season kicks-off.

Welcome to the NEW radio home of Missouri Southern sports!

Well it's official. 1230 The Fan is your new radio home for Missouri Southern sports!

After all of the paperwork and arm twisting (hope those burns heal quickly Kevin!) Lions radio is back in Joplin-right here on 1230 The Fan!

We are all very excited to bring Lions fans the BEST coverage that Southern has ever had. The timing of this announcement comes at a very critical yet special time in Southern athletics.

The athletic department is in the best shape in recent memory thanks to the hard work of so many. From a wins and losses standpoint-which is what sports teams are judged upon- Southern is riding a tidal wave of momentum  as we move further into the spring and summer.  New administration within the university led by new President Dr. Speck has made assurances that the facility issues that have plagued MSSU, especially in regards to football and baseball will be resolved in the near future.

All of this is very positive and we hope to add to that warm fuzzy vibe.

Since September, we here at 1230 The Fan have made it our top priority to put Southern sports on the top of everyones mind...exactly where it should be. Lions games are a huge event and that's the kind of feel we've wanted to give to four-states listeners. Hopefully we've done some of that and there's a ton more to come.

You'll hear Coach Tatum's show during football season and for the first time that I can remember-Coach Corn and Coach Mitts will have shows as well on the radio. Plus daily updates and prep as we get you ready for the next Lions game.

We'll also have great promotions like the first annual Tailgate Cook-off Bar-B-Que contest during football season and much more. Everything we can do to get you-the fan-involved and to the games this year.

Missouri Southern is Joplin's team and we are your sports station-the perfect marriage.

I'm very excited to get things going. I wish August was here already! All of us at Zimmer Radio are very pumped to be affiliated with MSSU and promise Lions fans the best coverage anywhere.

Don't worry Mizzou fans. The Tigers are moving to News Talk 1310 so you'll still get to here Missouri football and basketball games this coming year.

Just remember- on 1230 The Fan-it's Southern game day everyday!

-Dave
